Our purpose
Every page should help someone run a better walk-a-thon. A page that doesn't add something practical, like a decision framework, a worked example, a template or a tool, doesn't get published.
How we handle numbers
Fundraising advice is full of confident statistics with no source. Ours aren't. We use four kinds of numbers, and we label which is which:
| Type | Example | How we present it |
|---|---|---|
| Sourced facts | The history of the walkathon | With a citation on the page |
| Arithmetic | 4 laps of a 400 m track ≈ 1 mile | With the formula |
| Rules of thumb | “Over-recruit volunteers by about 20%” | As planning advice, not as research findings |
| Examples | Pre-filled calculator inputs | Labeled as examples, never as averages or benchmarks |
We do not publish averages, benchmarks or “studies show” claims we can't trace to a source. If we publish original data in the future, it will come with a methodology page explaining how it was collected, sample sizes, and its limits.
How guides are written
Guides are written and edited by the Walk-A-Thon.com team, drawing on our work running fundraising services for schools and community groups. Every page is reviewed for accuracy before publication and checked against these standards.
Updates and dates
Each page shows when it was first published and when it was last substantively updated. We change the “updated” date only for real content changes, not for typo fixes or layout changes. We review core guides at least once a year, ahead of the spring walk-a-thon season.
Relationships and disclosure
Walk-A-Thon.com is owned by a team that also runs other fundraising services (details on our About page). We don't recommend fundraising platforms, and whenever a page mentions a service run by our team, it says so beside the mention. We don't accept paid placements.
Links to other sites
We link to outside sources when they support a fact or are genuinely useful to an organizer. Linking isn't an endorsement, and we don't accept payment for links.
Corrections
If you find an error, email hello@walk-a-thon.com with the page and the problem. We review every report. Substantive corrections are made promptly and the page's updated date changes. If a correction changes advice someone may have acted on, we note it on the page.
